Christmas at the Arboretum

      Kathleen and I had a nice Christmas outing at the Dallas Arboretum. We met up with her friend Carolyn Reindollar as we were sipping somewhat overpriced hot chocolates & listening to a harpist playing some of our favorite Christmas tunes. Kathleen conferred with Santa who had years earlier listened to her plea for a husband for her Christmas present. Even though there were a few false starts, we decided she finally got the right husband--we hope.

     A bit later we met up with our friends the Gradles . . . had we bought this Santa Dreidel for the Gradles it might be referred to as the Gradle Dreidel--so I'm glad that we didn't do that. Later we adjourned to the the Gradle residence for crackers, cheese, wine, etc.

     It was a beautiful night to walk among the lights and foliage of the Arboretum with friends, Christmas music, and holding hands with my Sweetie.

On the History Trail

     Kathleen & I left the Lincoln Highway behind & headed out for Virginia--although as we passed through West Virginia we did find ourselves on a three mile stretch of the Lincoln Highway again:

     We then headed for Gettysburg--one of the Civil War battlefield sites. The town was very picturesque. We spent an hour or so walking the downtown area:

     

   This is the location of President Lincoln's Gettysburg Address--we ate dinner at the Lincoln Diner just about 200 feet from where he delivered this oration. Also a fair amount of our time was spent driving/walking the very large battlefield. I've always found the Civil War to be be a very sad subject so this was very mixed for me. In some ways it has a very similar feel to the current Presidential election.

     From here we went to Mananas to visit a friend from Kathleen's childhood in Tyler TX, Rebekah. We went with her & her husband to Fredericksburg--another Civil War site.

      However, the next day Kathleen & I spent the day in Washington D.C. going to the Native American Museum & then on to the Humanati Meeting to which we were invited by our friend Lewis Hicks. We learned a lot about the history of "Home Rule" in D.C. & the numerous political & economic problems of the residents of D.C.

     now we have a week in the Williamsburg, VA area.
